Water, Water Everywhere

Growing up in one of the richest nations of Europe, water, in the sense of a limited resource which ought to be protected, received little attention. When talking about water scarcity one would picture yellow lawns during hot summers – or, possibly – dusty savannah “somewhere” in Africa.
Whereas many might have a rough idea about their personal consumption of petrol, beer or even calories I doubt many know how many litres water we consume per day. Or what the matter of water scarcity in Africa really is about.

There might be a straightforward answer to the former aspect (the average citizen in the UK consumes 150l water per day, not counting virtual water which easily accounts for another 6000l per capita per day).
The latter, however, is of a rather complex nature – welcome at Behind the Bottle!
This blog attempts to discover diverse aspects of the political side of water problems (and solutions) in the West of Sub-Sahara Africa.
